Intent- Why do we teach Art and Design?
Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Implementation- What do we teach?
The skills of Art and Design are taught to our pupils in a particular manner. The skills are identified and these underpin the learning journey for each pupil. The skills and knowledge for art and design are taught in a range of ways to capture the children’s imagination; written work, research, techniques practiced and applied and enrichment opportunities. We also teach art through a whole school art project twice a year.

Impact- Expectations for Art and Design
A high-quality art and design education should engage and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Through exploring and experimenting, children will learn how to control different media, so that they are able to produce creative work and record their experiences and integrate art and design skills through cross curricular learning.
CPD for all staff – demonstrating and doing practical activities for staff members to take away and do with their class.
Monitoring planning to ensure it is matching whole school plan and meeting National Curriculum objectives.
