    Deferred Entry and Summer-Born Children

All children are entitled to a full-time Reception place in the September following their fourth birthday.

Parents may choose to defer their child's admission to Reception until later in the school year, or arrange for their child to attend part-time until they reach compulsory school age. However, admission cannot be deferred beyond the beginning of the final term of the school year for which the place was offered.

A child reaches compulsory school age on the prescribed day following their fifth birthday (31st August, 31st December or 31st March).

    Summer-Born Children

Children born between 1st April and 31st August are known as summer-born children. Parents of summer-born children may choose not to send their child to school until the September following their fifth birthday. In these circumstances, parents may request that their child is admitted to Reception rather than Year 1 and educated outside their normal age group.

Requests for admission outside the normal age group will be considered on an individual basis. The admission authority will take account of the child's individual circumstances, including their needs, abilities and best interests, together with any relevant professional evidence provided by parents.

Parents considering a request for admission outside the normal age group are encouraged to discuss this with the school and the London Borough of Croydon School Admissions Team before making an application.
