Year 2
Welcome to Year 2
The Year 2 Team
Mrs Perryman (Head of Year), Mrs Wandel, Mrs Turner, Ms Pijvi, Ms Linehan
For Home-Learning, we want to encourage Year 2 children to be creative, discover new learning and get hands on to ensure that they explore the world around them through a range of interactive and innovative ways. All of which, we are sure they will enjoy!
Details of the Home Learning tasks will be given at the beginning of each half term on a grid, which is sent home in your child's purple Home Learning book. Tasks 1-4 are compulsory and tasks 5-8 are optional, however we highly recommend completing as many of them as possible to support your child's learning in school.
As mentioned, we will expect children to be completing certain tasks that we feel are most important. For instance, we would like children to be reading at least three times a week. Even if a child reads just one page a night before bed, but they have fully understood what they have read then this will benefit them immeasurably. Reading is the key to many academic successes; therefore, it really is important to have your child read to you and for you to also read to them. It doesn’t just have to be at bedtime, encourage your children to enjoy a book with you, wherever and whenever, it’s a time to explore and be imaginative, have fun and also some calm time.
There are also challenges for those pupils/families who feel they would like to do something a bit extra and we always love to see those who go above and beyond! The tasks are often short and fun activities, which are open-ended, and you can choose how they are completed and presented. For example, this could be by printing off pictures, pieces of writing, drawings or even sticking in a train ticket from a trip to see a famous landmark, all of which you can present in your purple Home Learning book.
If you've done something really special on the computer or have made a video you can send this to us via ClassDojo! We will also be using this platform to post weekly home learning and for communication between class teachers and parents.
We love to see what the children have been doing at home and whilst they’ve been out and about, and they LOVE to tell us too. So, we will be giving the children the opportunity to not only share this with us teachers but also with their peers.
Stickers will be awarded to children each half term depending on how many Home Learning tasks and challenges they have completed, if they make it to the Diamond award they will also receive a certificate.
Your Year 2 team look forward to seeing all your hard work and sharing your success!
